Class Descriptions:
Hip Hop Class
Fri 8:30-9:15am (low) Fri 9:45am-10:30am (High ) Fri 11:40-12:20pm (Dancers)
Fast Paced hip-hop choreography class — skaters will really enjoy this class! Students learn a complete routine during each class to popular music. Great way for students to learn to express themselves, and become less inhibited while performing. Lots of use of mirror and an encouraging challenge as the class is divided into groups and performs for their class mates.
Creative Kids
This 30 minute on-ice class introduces competitive figure skaters in basic music interpretation and choreography concepts. Instructor brings a selection of different musical pieces each week to familiarize student to various examples of different musical styles that may be used for figure skating performance. She instructs students in recognizing movements that are significant to the period or type of music, explaining how certain movements would be appropriate choreography for that type of music. Skaters also gain cultural music knowledge, some dance history, and improve their listening and discernment skills, gain rhythmic understanding and learn how the creative/choreographic process works in competitive figure skating. This very enjoyable class encourages skaters to become a more Creative Kid.
Spins
In this 30 minute on-ice class students wil perfect spins, explore the mechanics of a good spin, discuss the proper techniques that result in faster and better centered rogation, explore how spin rotation and jump rotation are related and work on spins in a variety of positions.
Workshop
This on-ice 30 minute once weekly class will cover different varied topics each week to strengthen the foundations of skating.
Stroking
These 15 minute on-ice classes will focus on power skatign with control of turns, posture, balance, and efficiency of strokes while building endurance and stamina. Class is offered at several different times throughout the day a various levels – for your skating level:
Sychronized skating Class
This synchronized skating workshop class will teach you how to skate with a team of 8-24 skaters doing circles, pinwheels, blocks, intersections and lines. Synchronized
skating is the fastest growing discipline in ice skating. You will have fun skating with others and learning how to be a part of a team. We will put together a short program to exhibit at the end of the summer for friends and family
Stretch & Flexibility Class
Class will help skaters increase their flexibility and teach correct stretching to help prevent many common injuries. Skaters will benefit from this class either before or after skating sessions to prevent soreness as well as increase their flexibility on the ice. Student will learn routine they can do on their own too.
Ballet Classes
Traditional ballet classes, specifically adapted to the needs of competitive figure skaters. No performance preparation or recital. No time wasted preparing a routine. All technique classes. Instructor has extensive experience relating ballet techniques to figure skating. Emphasis on posture, upper body awareness, flexibility and performance – no on turn out. Class is offered in incremental levels, at several different convenient times throughout the week – see times above.
Skallet Classes
Includes strengthening, flexibility, coordination, dance, balance and posture, using ballet techniques and a variety of skating specific exercises – students work on skating position in isolation to improve jump landings, rotation, spins, spirals and much more – a ver multi-faceted off-ice class.
Slideboard/Agility Mon, Wed 9:30-10:15am (high) Mon, Wed 11:45-12:30pm (low)
Using new Slide-Board technology for skaters “4D skating Revolution” more information can be found at www.4dskating.com this class will work on improving the skaters ability to jump higher with slide-board exercises and also cover agility exercises to improve jumping height and leg strength and power.
Yoga Thurs 9:45-10:30am (high) Thurs 10:45-11:30am ( pairs/dancer)
.This Yoga class has been developed to strengthen and develop the muscle groups used for figure skating, select balance exercises, and core strength exercises will help enhance the skaters abilities on ice for jumping, spinning, and agility elements like spirals and biellmanns.
Off Ice Jumps
Develop A, B, C’s of good jumping – Awareness, Balance & Coordination. This effective class will teach jump techniques and exercises on the floor that enhance and promote correct jumps on the ice, as well as pre-competition and pre-training jump warm-up.
Ballroom Dance
A traditional Ballroom dance class to help our Ice Dancers learn about the other art/sport that is their nearest relative. Class will improve teams performance, awareness, understanding or appropriate movements for different music types and dance qualities.
Circut / Core:
15 minutes of cardio starting off with leg stretches for injury prevention, followed by sprints, ply metrics, and more all designed to keep the heart rate up and increase stamina. 30 minutes of core work, exercise to increase abdominal and lower back strength followed by deep stretching to lengthen out muscles
